NAWKI MEETINGS DISCONTINUED

It has been decided to discontinue the NAWKI gatherings for the foreseeable future.

The NAWKI website will remain in place as a reminder of what has been achieved during the 3 years of NAWKI's

existence and as a resource for others who may be thinking of embarking on a similar project. Someone has likened the group to the first waves of the incoming tide which reach the shore way ahead of rest of the sea. I am convinced that the ideas on which NAWKI was founded (creativity, informality, personal involvement ,etc) must be taken on board by the main stream church if it is to be a real influence on this post Christian  generation.I would like to thank all those who have been involved with NAWKI over the last few years, some of whom still meet up with Eden People ( alternative worship group, Guildford Community Church) on an ad hoc basis.

Minutes of the last NAWKI meeting outlining plans for the

future are given below :

NAWKI in a Pub  - Meeting Notes

Participants: MJC, RH, PM, PT,DH,ST

Venue : Bridge Barn, Woking

Date:27/11/00

The meeting was arranged to discuss ' The Way Ahead' and to follow up the previous 'NAWKI in a pub' discussions of 16/10/00. Reviewing the last meeting there was general consensus of opinion that the small numbers attending the NAWKI gatherings (5-10 people) meant that regular monthly meetings were no longer viable unless more leaders could be found to spread the 'load'. At this meeting the following points were agreed upon:

  1. Monthly NAWKI gatherings should be discontinued until further notice.

  2. We should not lose the identity of NAWKI, namely ; our alternative worship group status, the name 'NAWKI', the website, and more importantly, our meeting together as a group of friends under the 'NAWKI banner'.

  3. We should remember what has been achieved to date in the areas of creative worship, use of gifts and developing friendships.

  4. We should investigate other Alternative Worship Groups (AWG) in the area, namely: Eden People ( in Guildford) and explore possibilities there.

  5. We should meet again in February/March 2001 to assess progress and to report back on any AWG meetings attended.

  6. If there is still a positive desire to continue the NAWKI gatherings, we should reformulate the 'Mission Statement' to describe what we feel we are being called to do NOW.

  7. We should then assess whether the NAWKI gatherings should be re-activated, and if so, at what frequency ( quarterly?) and in which format.
